Mola Molas at Crystal Bay

February 26th, 2010 by phil

Having already had a fantastic dive at Manta Point last Friday, we weren’t expecting the day to pull out anything more remarkable. I mean 12 Mantas dancing above your head, does diving get any better than this??? Apparently yes…. 25 minutes into our second dive at Crystal Bay, Nusa Penida after seeing numerous Giant Trevallies and other large pelagic fish, not only 1 but 2 Mola Mola appear from out in the Blue. The first one, about 2.5m tip to tip has large defined spots on its back, and the second swam in from the depths up to only 10m head on, creating a strange and ambiguous silhouette. So shocked to see them, it seemed quite unbelievable that they would be here at this time of year so it didnt really sink in straight away until it turned at the unmistakable form of the Oceanic Sunfish was shown, there was no denying it this was Blue Season Bali’s first and second Mola Mola of 2010!

Both the Mola swam East up into the shallows of Crystal Bay, shallow enough that even the boat crew said they had seen fins slicing the water.  Then again they passed as they disappeared back to the cool depths out to the Ceningan Channel. The fact we had seen them so out of season and so shallow was priceless…especially for the 6 lucky guests who had been told in the dive briefing:

“This is Crystal Bay, a cleaning station for the Oceanic Sunfish during the Mola Mola Season here in Bali, but you would have to be one of the luckiest divers in the world to expect to see one at this time of year, especially with this warm water we have now and the fact that we have Open Water divers on board the boat so our maximum depth will only be 18m”

Who knows what your going to see when you dive with BLUE SEASON BALI

PADI Instructor Course Nov 2009

November 18th, 2009 by Jonathan

It is time again for another adventure with the PADI Instructor Development Course with Blue Season Bali.

This month we have nine new Instructor candidates who will all be looking to successfully complete the PADI Instructor course with us at Blue Season Bali before heading to the PADI Instructor Examination on the 4th December.

The PADI Instructor course takes PADI Divemasters from being certified dive guides and PADI course assistants to being Instructors; conducting, organizing and marketing PADI dive courses.  Our extensive IDC program in Bali allows candidates to really concentrate on their development as Instructors and prepares them to succeed in the dive industry, once they have completed the PADI IE.

Over the next two weeks we will be teaching the Instructor candidates how to teach in the classroom, with knowledge development presentations, in the confined water of the swimming pool and also how to teach skills in the open water environment. Our PADI IDC team has a lot of information to pass on and will spend long hours ensuring the success of every candidate.

If you want further information about how you can join the IDC in Bali, just contact us.

Diving Bali – November 2009

November 15th, 2009 by max

Well the temperatures are rising in Bali and so are the water temperatures in some of the diving locations. After the traditionally cold summer months of 20-22 degrees on Nusa Penida, we now have a more acceptable 26/27 degrees, but needless to say the Sunfish have now moved on as they prefer the colder waters.

The beauty of diving Bali during November is that the dives sites are nowhere as busy as August and September and we’ve been having very good Manta Ray sightings as a result (there aren’t as many boats on Manta Point.)

Today we took a trip out to Tepekong, somewhere renowned for it’s legendary currents. Tepekong was however gentle and we enjoyed white tip reef sharks, schools of oriental sweetlips and a nice frog fish; our dive on Gili Mimpang reminded us though why we only ever take experienced divers to this location as we experienced strong down currents.

We’ll be out to Padang Bai over the next couple of days, always one of my favourites for good macro …………………and I just love those cute little cow fish.

Diving Bali – October 2009

October 14th, 2009 by max

Things have finally started to quieten down in Bali after a very hectic summer, the mola molas seemed relieved as well as we are now getting very good sightings now that there aren’t quite so many dive boats on Nusa Penida - we are hoping our beautiful Sunfish will stay around for the next few weeks.

Manta rays have been the stars of the show though with frequent sightings on Manta Point and more than a few days with schools of 12-20 manta rays circling around the divers – a wonderful experience even for the most hardened of divers.

For the less experienced divers, the USAT Liberty shipwreck never ceases to impress, the warm waters and good conditions are ideal for all levels of diver  and the marine life phenomenal; bumphead parrot fish, giant baraccuda, huge schools of trevally, harlequin sweetlips and some superb macro such as pygmy seahorse and leafy scorpion fish.

The diving in Bali is diverse so no matter what level of diver you are, there is something here for you to enjoy!

Diving Bali – 18 Manta Rays!

September 22nd, 2009 by max

Eighteen Manta Rays at Manta Point on Nusa Penida (Sunday 20th Sept); they decided to put on one of there awesome displays and prove to our guests just how beautiful they are. They are called the ‘Bird Of The Seas’ for a reason, the graceful way they glide through the waters is truly beautiful to watch.

We also did two dives on Crystal Bay and managed to find two Mola Molas. The Sunfish were enjoying there Balinese Spa treatment with cleaner fish busily pecking away at their parasites. A little bit chilly with temperatures dropping just below 20 degrees but it’s what the Mola Molas like…and as long as you’re prepared and wrapped up warm, it’s not a problem.

I think you’ll agree that eighteen manta rays and two sunfish is not a bad days diving!!!

Bali PADI IDC Success

September 5th, 2009 by max

September has started on a high with Blue Season Bali’s latest IDC success; so ‘Congratulations’ to Rosie, Trevor, Benji, Alex and Dan on becoming PADI Instructors; great teamwork and camaraderie contributed to the success as well as a lot of hard work.

We also need to say a special ‘thank you and well done’ to Jonathan Cross, Blue Season Bali’s very own onsite Course Director and to Tom West our PADI Internship Supervisor who assisted with the IDC.

Once the celebrations are over, it will be time to knuckle down and look forward to the next IDC which commences on 20th September. Jon and Tom will be happy to assist with any enquiries so please e-mail us for further information.

Diving Bali – August 2009

August 30th, 2009 by max

Bali continues to thrive this August and divers from all over the world are marvelling at our awesome Sunfish. Yep, the big boys haven’t dissapointed us this season, even popping up in the most unexpected of places. I’m talking of ‘Manta Point’, a site where divers go to witness the bird of the seas flying through the water, it’s not somewhere you’d expect to see a Sunfish! Guests diving on this particular day were treated to a double whammy and were needless to say, a little suprised.

It’s Instructor Development Training time again and Blue Season Bali has five candidates from Israel, France, USA and two from the UK – Rosie is flying the flag for the ladies! Jonathan Cross is Course Director and so far everyone is still having fun (let’s hear them say that once the exams start!).

Blue Season Bali has another IDC running in September, so please e-mail us to confirm your space; alternatively contact us if you need further information and either Jon or Tom will be happy to help you with your enquiries.
